Meeting Customer Needs

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Nakyazzi Ruth bought an AES improved cookstove three years ago. Since then, Ruth observed using about 50% less charcoal than before. Everyday she is responsible for preparing meals for six family members. With so many mouths to feed, savings is very important to her. Initially she would spend 2,000UGX (US$0.60) on charcoal everyday to make meals using her old metal stove. With her AES improved cookstove, she now only spends around 1,000UGX (US$0.30) for cooking fuel. When asked about how she spends her savings, she says, “I use savings to pay for school fees or buy more food.”
