Micro-entrepreneurs finding business success with the help of their improved cookstoves

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Phiphi Restaurant is a popular eating venue near Mulago hospital, Uganda’s largest medical facility. Joan Natukunda, the restaurant manager, expressed notable changes in delivery of food when they invested in improved cookstoves. “We would spend around 6 million UGX ($1,800) every month on charcoal but when we started using improved cookstoves we spent only around 3 million ($900). This is a lot of money we save!” Joan says that her restaurant prepares food for over 200 people daily and in some cases up to 1,000 people.
