KAMPALA, UGANDA: Prossy is a 28 year-old mother of three, who started using improved cook stoves in 2013. She’s a self-employed woman who makes hand-stitched purses everyday. Using improved cookstoves makes it possible for her to save time cooking for her children and spend more time making her handicraft. Her business became a reality once she started saving money from using less charcoal. “Because I save money using less charcoal, I can buy beads and other material to make purses,” she says. It takes her four days to make one purse, which can earn her 25,000UGX ($7.50) down at St. Balikudembe market in Kampala. With her profits she wants to buy land and expand her business.
