KAMPALA, UGANDA – Mariam Nahlwada is an owner of a small street-side restaurant. Her six improved cookstoves makes it possible for her to save up to 50% of fuel costs everyday, which is equivalent of 5,000UGX ($2) in savings.
When Mariam started her business six years ago with three stoves, stoves that she’s still using today. With her savings, she not only bought three more stoves for her business, she is able to pay for school fees for her children.
Seeing how stoves helped her business, she does her best to promote the stove to her clients. “I tell customers it cooks well and keeps the fire burning longer,” she said. “It’s also long lasting,” as she points to her six-year old stoves.
